The volcanic garden at Steffeln
The tour starts at the upper Kylltal/Vulkaneifel.  Briefly
behind the village of Steffeln the volcanic landscape
“Steffeln Kopf”  begins. The view “opens a window”
into the past: deep uncanny chasms, bizarres rock
formations and red layers from the pre-volcanic time.
The highlight is the powerful, torn wall of half diminished s of the Steffelnkopf of volcano chimney.
In addition a example of a “Maar”
(a lake of volcanic origins) and a
typical volcanic cinder cone should
be seen. Of the members of the
“Eifel Verein” (Eifel association) in
Steffeln lead "generally comprehen-
sibly" as "volcanic gardner" through
this petrified earth archives and pass
their knowledge of the geo inheritance
of the Eifel gladly to all guests. The
suggested landscape round course
starts at the community center and passes
the lookout point at the chapel
“Wahlhausen” to the volcanic
garden and back. It takes about
one and a half hours, with a length
from 2.5 kilometers. From April to Octobers each interested visitor is invited (every Wednesday, starting at 2 pm at the church).
Prices:  Adult:  2,50 €, children 1.50 €.

Demonstration with explanation "casting and forming" in the Ironmongery Museum Juenkerath
For some years the
ironmongery museum
Juenkerath offers during
the vacation time a very
special workshop:  with
the workshop "forms and
casting" the museum
becomes "alive". First It
sounds itself somewhat
strangely: Tin casting in
an ironmongery museum.
But both metals have
however quite some together:
Tin is exactly like the iron a
heavy metal. Both have the same specific weight, i.e. 7,5.  Tin can "rust" just like iron.  If the tin gets too cold and damp it disintegrates into a grey powder, the so-called “grey tin. The museum visitor will be astonished if they “hear” another interesting characteristic of the tin meets: if you bend a tin bar back and forth, then it gives a clearly audible noise of itself, the so-called “zinnschrei”.  Dates:  (*) Vacation times of Nordrhein/Westphalen and Rheinland-Pfalz. Beginning 14 o'clock ' - duration: 1 - 1.5 hours normal museum entrance (*) of dates also otherwise after arrangement possible
